24-hour basketball event to support Matt Brown

NORWOOD (FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) - About 100 teams are hitting the court for a 24-hour basketball event to support Norwood hockey player Matt Brown, who suffered a spinal cord injury on the ice in January.

All of the money is going to the “Brownie Points” fund, set up to support his recovery.

The event started at 3 p.m. on Friday at Norwood’s Savage Center and will continue until 3 p.m. on Saturday.

Sen. Scott Brown and his daughter Ayla Brown took the court to take part in the event.

Matt Brown, 15, is currently at a rehab center in Atlana, where his mother said he is improving. He has regained some feeling and has movement in his upper extremities.

“Matt would be overwhelmed and just thrilled to see this,” his mother, Sue Brown, said.

Organizers are hoping to raise more than $20,000.
